Tracking Multilevel Power Supplies for Class-D Audio Amplifiers

Switch-mode technology is the common choice for high-efficiency audio power amplifiers. The dynamic nature of real limits achievable continuous output thus reducing efficiency. Based on methods used radio frequency (RF) amplifiers, this article proposes a tracking multilevel supply (TMLPS) in order to improve system A simple prototype designed and tested up 200 W. Measured results show that employing TMLPS can efficiency with factor 6 when playing music. In addition, temperature rise amplifier vastly reduced, especially switching MOSFETs where it halved from 100 °C 50 °C. To further efficiency, an optimization method proposed. considers amplitude distribution music signals consumer behaviors. Simulations be improved by 1.23 optimized compared uniform solution.
